They have a tough road ahead of them
Teen Mom allows us to see all of the beauty and magic of having a baby. That’s why many people watch it — well, that, and the endless drama. It also shows the darker side of parenting, the struggles that many new moms face. One of the hardest things a parent ever has to deal with is a tough diagnosis. There is nothing more trying than discovering that your little angel is suffering from a life-threatening condition.
On a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, Briana got heartbreaking news: Stella has a heart condition. The normally spunky and positive Briana was speechless when confronted with the news that her little girl has a hard road ahead of her. Meanwhile, her baby daddy, Luis, was nowhere around.

Devastating Condition

Briana faced some serious difficulties when she found out she was pregnant with her second baby by a second baby daddy, Luis. The two weren’t in a serious relationship at the time, but together they had to decide whether to put their baby up for adoption or co-parent the child.
Things took a turn for the worse when Briana discovered that Luis was cheating on her. By then, Briana had decided to keep the baby, and she and her family had to figure out how to make Briana’s motherhood work.
It wasn’t until Stella was born that Briana was hit with another complication: Stella was born with a serious heart defect. Briana learned that Stella had three holes in her heart when she was born.
“The results were not good and I’m really scared for her,” Briana said when she was bringing Stella home from the hospital. “She has three holes in her heart.”
When she was with her family at home, she explained more about the condition. “The holes don’t grow, they stay the size they are,” she said. “They’re kind of small. People live their lives with holes in their heart and they’re fine. She just wants to keep an eye on it.”
Briana was still estranged from Luis at the time. “He hasn’t asked about the risk factors or anything,” Briana said. “Her heart is working so hard and it might just give up.”

Eventually, Luis did come by to check on his daughter, but when the time came, Briana was livid. “She needs a father in her life,” she told him. “This is why we kept her. There is no reason why you’re in the same state as her and you haven’t seen her or done anything for her. You hardly even ask how she’s doing.”
Luis made it clear that he had no reason for not being there. “I don’t have an excuse or an explanation,” he said.
At the time of Stella’s birth, Briana opened up in an interview with Radar online about her daughter’s “devastating” health condition.
“It’s been so hard dealing with Stella,” she said. “She has some heart condition, she has holes in her heart. It’s been difficult dealing with Stella right now.” She added, “We just have to monitor her breathing.”
On top of Stella’s condition, Briana’s mother was recently diagnosed with lupus. “About a year and a half ago she found out she had lupus,” Briana told Radar Online.
“Ever since then it’s been difficult. She’s not the same woman she was. She’s always tired, always sick, always in the hospital. She helped me with Nova and now she can’t help me anymore. I’ve basically been on my own. I have to be strong for my mother because she’s so sick.”
