Can Teen Mom OG really replace Farrah, their most outspoken star? According to the rumors, they are certainly trying! But why haven't they announced the newest "teen mom"?
Last fall, Farrah Abraham was fired from Teen Mom OG in an explosion of controversy. The show finished the season with the three remaining mothers: Maci Bookout, Amber Portwood, and Catelynn Lowell, but viewers were left wondering how the show would continue in the future.
Would they fill the fourth spot? Or would they continue with just the OGs? MTV has kept fans waiting for the answer on the edge of their seats!
This whole debacle began in October of 2017 when thousands of Farrah’s adult fans tuned in for her live show on the adult entertainment streaming site CamSoda. For weeks, she promoted her return to the adult entertainment industry and teased fans by announcing new “back door” action.
But when viewers logged on to watch the skills that Farrah had been boasting about, they instead watched her announce her departure from Teen Mom OG. She opened up about her conflicts with MTV in an Instagram Live broadcast just prior to the adults-only show.
After advertising the raunchy toys and lingerie she’d be using, she vented, “I had a super horrible day. MTV fired me…because my press for my own brand outshines their press. And also, they were sex-shaming me about doing this cam show today.”
Farrah then went off in a lengthy Instagram rant.
"Sad such a phenomenal show will no longer have its biggest talent…because of women hating, sex shaming, hate crimes, selfish, Weinstein company power trip behaviors against a professional hard working, honest mother…If God’s for you who dare be against you. I look forward to writing my first business book and sharing all of these life changing experiences in detail , from scheming producers & executives to jealous celebrities ,what to do to over come , not be shattered & stay true to the free world we live in ! #USA #AMERICA…Your much better then all the politics & the people at the top who could never be at the top if it wasn’t for you! #godisgood"
While Farrah immediately began to spin her side of the story after she was fired, MTV waited until January to release footage of the incident that caused them to finally sever ties with the outspoken star.
As Teen Mom Talk Now previously reported, in an episode of Teen Mom OG, Farrah blasts a producer as she sits in a car, “I know I don’t like you, and I know I don’t even want to f**king look at you. F**k you and your excuses” and she rolls up the car window.
The scene cuts to a tense conversation between Farrah and executive producer Morgan J. Freeman, where he told her, “You do have very little empathy or compassion for other people…There has to be respect for our crews and for the producers… and the amount of work that goes into keeping you happy with crew has bubbled up to a point that we have to figure out if we move forward.”
What were the issues affecting the crew?
Farrah refused to let crew members use the restroom in her home, and then insisted on removing porta-potties that MTV put on-site. Furthermore, she banned the crew from wearing shoes inside, which might sound reasonable if Farrah did not bring a miniature horse into her foyer!
Farrah was unsympathetic to Morgan’s concerns. “If that’s overwhelming for you, I’m sure there’s a better way of handling it,” she says in the clip.
“Out of nine moms, you’re the only one that’s the problem,” Morgan responds.
“I’m not difficult!” Farrah insists. “I am so understanding, I work my a** off just like everyone.” That’s where the clip ends.
In the context of her abusive tirades, MTV’s decision to fire Farrah became clearer to everyone involved. So how do producers plan on replacing their most outspoken OG mom? Everyone has had an opinion about who should be the newTeen Mom OG.
For a long time, there was a popular online theory that it would be Mackenzie Standifer, Ryan Edwards’ new wife.
The Ashley’s Reality Roundup quoted a source in February who said, “They are planning to pay her around $3,000 an episode to take the fourth spot on Teen Mom OG. That would obviously be significantly less than the other girls make. It is not a done deal yet, but the consensus is that Mackenzie Edwards will get the spot. Recently, they’ve been filming her life with Ryan for Maci‘s segment almost more than Maci’s life. Plus, she was a teenage mother so it kind of makes sense.” Mackenzie has a preschool-aged son from a previous relationship named Hudson.
Despite the rumors, producers eventually chose not to move forward with this Mackenzie either! Maybe because of Ryan and Mackenzie’s latest marital troubles!
Then the rumor mill turned to Cheyenne Floyd, former contestant on Are You The One? and The Challenge. Fans were outraged to think that Cheyenne would be the latest Teen Mom OG cast member, as she gave birth to her first child, Ryder, at age 24.
The reality star announced her pregnancy in an Instagram post in October 2016. The birth of baby Ryder was a quiet affair, especially by Teen Mom standards. It almost seemed like Cheyenne shies away from the spotlight. Almost.
Cheyenne was initially unwilling to share the details of her baby’s father, but she came under the microscope last December when it was revealed that her baby daddy was a former co-star. She worked with Cory Wharton on the set of The Challenge: Rivals III.
Cory confirmed his involvement by sharing a photo of the pair with their daughter captioned: “I’ve been off of social media for a while now... for many reasons. Most importantly God has given me the biggest blessing in my life, my daughter Ryder K Wharton. I want to say thank you Cheyenne for being such an amazing mother. I look forward to co-parenting with you and giving Ryder all the love in the world. I can’t wait to watch you grow up and be there for you every step of the way, love you Moochie !!!”
Since his initial post, he’s shared countless snaps of his daughter on his social media, many even featuring Cheyenne! Although the couple is no longer romantically linked, they supposedly are amicable co-parents.
However, it seems Teen Mom OG is not moving forward with the reality TV couple. Could Cheyenne have cost herself the spot?
After rumors of her casting for the show, controversy exploded over offensive posts on Cheyenne’s Twitter account. In tweets that have since been deleted , Cheyenne revealed thoughts that Reddit user Blaze_90 called “incredibly racist.”
In one tweet, she shares, “My mom said I can’t see The Help, she knows I already have a problem with white people,” referring to the 2011 blockbuster featuring Viola Davis and Emma Stone, among other stars. “Last night I saw it and I wanted to kill every white person I saw,” Cheyenne continued before adding three “gun” emojis.
In a later tweet, Cheyenne said, “This little white kid told me I looked like a cat today. I shoulda kicked him in his head.” Fans were outraged to learn that MTV’s rumored choice for a show about motherhood had threatened physical violence against a child!
No matter who producers choose to join the cast, the teen moms long ago expressed their hesitation to welcome a replacement onto the show.
Catelynn said on Kailyn Lowry’s podcast Coffee Convos, “They can’t [bring in another girl to our show] because we’re the OG’s, the original girls. If you do that, it won’t be the original girls anymore.”
According to Radar Online, a source said Amber is “pissed off about the new cast member” and doesn’t “like the idea of someone who is a total newbie and has never even been on the show before coming on permanently.”
Reddit user Baahberry agreed, writing “Nooooo, MTV. I don’t think they ‘get’ it. I can only speak for myself, but I only watch TM and TM2 because I already ‘know’ these girls and am invested in what happens to them. "
Bahberry’s post continued, “I don’t CARE about new girls…whether you like her or not, there IS no replacement for Farrah.”
However, it looks like it might not be a total new girl after all. There is speculation that Teen Mom OG is following the lead of Teen Mom 2 and adopting a former cast member from Teen Mom 3!
Briana DeJesus made a splash when she re-joined the Teen Mom franchise and now it looks like another one of the girls, Mackenzie McKee, may be getting her ticket back to stardom.
The rumors that she would be joining Teen Mom OG as Farrah’s replacement began when Mackenzie shared a Snapchat taken in her home. In addition to her family, there was one person pictured who sparked the rumors: Teen Mom executive producer Morgan J. Freeman.
Mackenzie was featured on 16 and Pregnant in 2012 as she was pregnant with Gannon, her eldest child. Her daughter, Jaxie Taylor is 4 years old. She gave birth to her third child, Broncs Weston, via C-section in 2016. She married her long-time boyfriend, Josh McKee, after filming wrapped on Teen Mom 3.
Though it is unconfirmed, Mackenzie seems thrilled at the prospect of being the newest teen mom. “I’ve missed sharing my life. I’ve always enjoyed sharing my life,” Mackenzie said on Coffee Convos in March. “There’s a lot that I can’t answer, but I would absolutely love to be part of the family again. It’s in God’s hands, if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, I’m still going to continue doing my fitness stuff”
She also shared her dismay about Teen Mom 3’s cancellation on Kailyn’s podcast. “It happened so fast,” Mackenzie told the hosts.
“We had to wait a year for it to air and then they called and were like, ‘We’re done with you guys…Half of us wanted to [film] on and half of us really showed that they didn’t want this life,” Mackenzie added. “And this lifestyle isn’t for everyone. It takes a strong backbone to read stuff about yourself. But we never really got a clear answer about why it got cancelled.”
Kailyn was just as shocked about the series’ failure. “I was a little salty that they were adding more girls, but I actually kind of like some of your stories, so I was surprised when I heard they were cancelling it,” she shared.
Though Mackenzie was caught off guard by the end of Teen Mom 3, it may have come at a good time for her. “Right when we finished, my life went into a very dark place.” she shared.
“It was like the worst it had ever been…My relationship with Josh got worse, and I just kept thinking to myself, ‘I’m so glad this isn’t on TV right now because this is the hardest time in my life.’”
Now that Mackenzie has seen firsthand the difficulties of life on reality TV, she can be more prepared to appear on MTV once again. “It makes me respect [the Teen Mom casts] so much more,” she told Kail about her experience. “You guys went through the hardest times of your life being on TV for years with no break.”
Mackenzie needs to be ready for the challenges of filming because she is currently dealing with some intense family matters. As Teen Mom Talk Now previously reported, Mackenzie McKee announced in early 2018 that her mother, Angie Douthit, had been diagnosed with lung and brain cancer that had already reached stage 4.
Mackenzie recounted on Coffee Convos
"My mom got suddenly diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. She has so many masses in her lungs that they stopped counting at 40. One of them is the size of an orange. Then the cancer went to her brain. It was kind of a shock because she doesn’t smoke, she doesn’t drink, she’s a marathon runner. She ran five miles in the morning, filmed three hours of cardio with me for my business and did a Crossfit workout that night. The next morning we find out she has Stage 4 lung cancer. She has had two rounds of radiation and lost her hair pretty much immediately…she does the new chemo pill, and she had a checkup the other day and the mass that was the size of an orange is half the size that it was. We’re getting good results."
Mackenzie told Kailyn and Lindsey that MTV contacted her shortly after her mother’s diagnosis. “As soon as that hit, she was an inspiration, she started to doing speaking and spoke out to people. So MTV decided to do a special about her story and her battle with cancer,” Mackenzie said. “It’s just a huge inspirational story. Have your tissues ready.”
An MTV special explains the presence of Morgan Freeman and the camera crews at her family home, but why has MTV kept fans waiting on the details? “We filmed our last session last weekend,” Mackenzie added. “They said [it will air] actually pretty soon. They said they want to wrap it up and start editing it. They said April, but that was pushing it, so it may be out in May.”
It’s almost July, so where is the special? Is MTV holding on to the footage for something else, like maybe the newest season of Teen Mom OG? Reddit user mysterypeeps suggested, “Maybe they’re filming specials of all the girls to see who rates the best?
Mackenzie recently reignited the rumors that she would be joining the cast of Teen Mom OG when she shared photos of herself and her mom appearing on MTV’s TRL with Leah Messer of Teen Mom 2.
Some fans, like Reddit user PicnicLifeB*tch69, are ready to see more of the former cheerleader: “I think Mack’s life would make for some great reality tv.”
@Meghann.marie89 agreed on Instagram, commenting, “…I would LOVE for her to be added to one of the shows!! She has a story and it would relate to soooooo many people.”
Other fans are not excited to hear that Mackenzie might come back. Mountain-hermit wrote, “Anytime I hear about McKee I seriously imagine that scene where she pitches the biggest toddler fit kicking and screaming in the back of her parents car with her newborn beside her all becuase she missed her man's rodeo. Everytime I hear her name I see this scene in my head!! I can't move past this moment to even semi like her.”
Instagram user @tmgg2007 wants Mackenzie to stay off the show…but for very different reasons! In a comment, the user writes, “Out of ALL the TM franchises she has it together more than any of them. She is practically too good to return. She doesn't have baby daddy drama & she is mentally healthy. MTV wants trash. Sorry. I had to say it!!”
Hopefully soon, MTV will announce the new mom and settle it once and for all!
