She wants to help him, not hurt him
Jenelle Evans has made it very clear to everyone that she wants her son Jace to live with her permanently. She signed over custody to her mother Barbara many years ago; she felt that it was impossible for her to take properly care of him while she was trying to get her life together. She’s stayed clean and sober, and she hasn’t been in legal trouble for a long time now. She feels like she needs to be his full-time caregiver. So she’s taking a big step and showing the courts that she can be a responsible mom for him.
Fighting for Jace
In a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, we finally saw what went on just before Jenelle’s big custody trial for Jace. Barbara insisted that she had Jace in therapy because he was anxious and crying about having to go to Jenelle’s house. She claimed that Jace said that David and his daughter Marissa were mean to him and that he wouldn’t mind living with just his mom and Kaiser.
Barbara said, “All he wants is Jenelle’s attention.” Jenelle and David later tracked down Barbara at a restaurant where they claimed to see her drinking too much wine when she had to drive Jace and other kids around. Babs claimed they were ambushing her and lying about her to make her look bad to the courts. Jenelle and David followed Barbara to her home and refused to leave until the police intervened saying the young couple couldn’t be on Barbara’s property.
Jenelle said just before the custody case, “My number one choice is going to be to get full custody, but ultimately it’s what the judge decides. I don’t bring the situation up to Jace anymore because I don’t want to push that on him. When he’s older, he’s going to realize ‘Wow, my grandma was trying to push that on me hard for no reason when my mom is fine.'”
Jenelle believed that she would finally get primary custody of her son from her mother Barbara, but considering everything that was going on between them, it was decided that Jenelle would have Jace on the weekends and during holidays only right now.
Mum’s the Word
Jenelle remained care-free while she had Jace over the summer, but now that he’s back in the care of his grandmother, Jenelle is reacting to it. Jenelle had a lot to say about what’s going on with Jace now that it’s been revealed that he may not like David that much. Jenelle said about the situation on Twitter, “It was my idea to get him into therapy and then all of a sudden my mom signed him up. We have one-on-one sessions without my mom. Later this season of Teen Mom 2 will shed light on this situation and about someone in the middle of my relationship with my son. No names.”
Jenelle is being respectfully quiet about her strained relationship with her mother; her maturity is admirable. She said about her therapy sessions with Jace, “We are going to but the therapist want to work on solely on the mother and son relationship; slowly but surely going to fix this.”
Being a Good Parent
Her fans had some questions and comments for her about the touchy family situation. Nancy Lee said, “I believe deep down inside you feel bad and are ok with her raising him. If it weren’t for David, you wouldn’t be fighting your ma over Jace.” Jenelle replied, “Funny, Jace’s therapist is starting one-on-one sessions with David soon… so why would she suggest that if my mom told her David’s so ‘bad’?”
That’s when Jenelle explained that Jace was where he needed to be with his therapy, and that it would be best to take him out of the spotlight for now. She said about her therapist, “We had our own session before starting the sessions with Jace. She was surprised by a lot of what she didn’t know behind closed doors. She even read my book before I went in there… so she really understands my childhood very well and how I was raised, can’t say more. If you guys don’t hear me talk about Jace too much anymore and his feelings it’s because his therapist and I decided to not talk publicly about Jace on-camera, off-camera, on social media, etc. He’s older now and has his own will and voice. He’s not a baby. Hopefully the other party can follow the same rules. Just posting so everyone doesn’t think that I don’t care.”
