Will they be locked up?
There’s never a good time to be behind bars, but being locked up when you’re an expecting father may just be one of the worst. Unfortunately for Ryan Edwards, that’s just the situation he found himself facing. After a very public relapse into his heroin addiction, Ryan faced off with the law itself when he was busted with heroin in his car. Now his sentence is coming out.
Busted
Considering how the recent season of Teen Mom OG painted Ryan, it’s safe to say that what you see on TV isn’t always the truth. Although Ryan Edwards’ wife Mackenzie Standifer and his parents Larry and Mimi Jen all insisted that Ryan was clean after rehab, it’s clear that wasn’t the case. Ryan recently failed a drug test, testing positive for opiates and morphine, which comes as no surprise after his recent drugs bust.
Ryan was pulled over on March 27 for an unrelated traffic regulation when police officers spotted a bag full of needles in his car.
“I asked Edwards if he had any medical conditions and he replied, ‘No,’” the officer’s report published by Radar Online reads. “I then asked why he had a hypodermic needle in his backpack and he replied, ‘I don’t know.’ I told them that the vehicle will be searched and he should inform me if there are more and Edwards replied, ‘Yes, probably.’”
Down to Court
Ryan was quick to admit to officers that his addiction had returned. When police found fourteen hypodermic needles in Ryan’s car, one of which was loaded with heroin, as well as a “bag tied in the center console with a dark substance inside,” it was clear what was going on. The officer asked Ryan about the substance, and Ryan replied “It’s heroin and I have a problem.”
As a result of this bust, Ryan was issued a misdemeanor citation for simple possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and expired registration, according to Radar Online. Now Ryan has just received his sentence for breaking the law.
“Ryan got six months probation and five public work days,” a source told Radar Online. In addition to this, Ryan will have to stay clean or risk violating his probation. “He has random drug tests in between,” the source explained. The outlet also caught snapshots of Ryan heading to the courthouse without his trusty wife Mackenzie by his side.
Let off Easy?
Considering the evidence against Ryan, many see this sentence as relatively lax. “I mean he’s a white male and he’s in a state that’s being destroyed by an opioid epidemic. They don’t have the jail space for every opioid user they catch. Im not shocked at all that he’s getting probation again,” wrote reddit user StasRutt about the update. User mossyrocks wrote, “I hope they took away his drivers license for that length of time too. More accidents waiting to happen until he is clean!”
