What's going on off camera?
Totally Fake
According to The Ashley in her book Teen Mom Confidential: Secrets & Scandals From MTV’s Most Controversial Shows, much of the girl’s major life events are staged. In fact, during the season 2 finale of Teen Mom 2, a scene where Kailyn and Jo had hooked up in the shower was allegedly totally fake.
“MTV wasn’t there [when Jo and I hooked up] but they tried to play it like they were,” Kail tells us. “They had us reenact it. The scene where I tell Jordan about cheating on him was reenacted. That’s why I was so cold hearted. Jordan already knew about it at that time, and we had already moved past it, but they made us reenact it and live through it again, and then again when it aired.”
Apparently, it made Kailyn consider quitting. “There was a point that I wanted to quit and rip up my contract because of the way they treated me,” she revealed in The Ashley‘s book.
Crew Lies?
In some ways, MTV seems to intervene with filming a lot, but there are times they are accused of being too hands-off. For example, when they aired footage of Ryan Edwards driving to his own wedding while high, fans wanted to know why they didn’t intervene.
“The reason the producers didn’t stop Ryan from driving after he was seen nodding off is because the producers would not have been able to see him nodding off,” a crew member told The Ashley. “That footage (and almost all car footage) is captured on Go-Pro cameras installed on the dashboard. We do not have a live feed to watch the cast in their car, despite what some viewers think. We do not have live eyes on them the whole time we’re filming them.”
This seemed like a good enough explanation, but many fans have since questioned whether this is true. After all, crew members have interacted with the cast while they were driving in the past, such as when they overheard Chelsea announcing Watson’s gender — and immediately spoke to her over a speaker in the car.
Baby Bonus
Of course, of all of the Teen Mom rumors, one of the most common is the “baby bonus” theory. Many fans believe that cast members get paid more for each pregnancy they have. There was no evidence of this… until very recently.
Farrah Abraham’s ex boyfriend Simon Saran added some validity to the rumors when he accused MTV for dishing out for Amber’s pregnancy. “Poor Amber had to get knocked up for [executive producer Morgan J. Freeman]’s financial gain! How sad! It’s like a breeding mill over at #TeenMomOG,” he tweeted.
