Trouble in paradise? Not so much...
Damage Control
Probably picking up on the fact that “Chelsea and Cole on the Outs” was about to become a tabloid headline, Cole himself shut the situation down as fast as possible. The star commented on the photo shortly after the first mentions of his “lack” of wedding ring to let fans know that he actually was wearing one in the photo — it was just hard to see.
Because he works with his hands, he (and many people with jobs like his) has a silicon wedding ring, in addition to his “real” one, to avoid losing or breaking the nicer one. It’s copper colored and blended in to his skin due to the lighting in the picture.
In Fairness…
To their credit, many Insta-fans were quick to point out that there are no actual conclusions that can be drawn from an apparent lack of a wedding ring. People take them off all the time for any number of reasons, especially in their own homes.
For real. Wedding rings are, at the end of the day, essentially performative. Not wearing one while you’re around the house actually makes quite a bit of sense because… who are you proving your relationship to in the comfort of your own home? No one… except maybe Instagram sleuths, I guess.
The Takeaway:
So, for anyone who saw that picture and wondered or read an article saying that he wasn’t wearing it, we’re setting the record straight.
They are fine (or there is no reason to believe that they aren’t).
Cole was wearing a ring, he said so himself; I’ve zoomed in above to prove it!
Lesson of the day: Don’t believe everything you see on the Internet… especially Instagram conspiracies. Thank you and good night.
