Many of the Teen Mom cast members had extremely difficult pasts. Because they were famous at the age of 16, viewers are familiar with some of the difficulties they experienced while they were were still underage. For Catelynn Lowell, many elements of her upbringing were particularly traumatic, and they have taken a toll on her mental health.
In the last season of Teen Mom OG, Catelynn admitted to growing up in an abusive household and turning to drugs to cope with her trauma. She also underwent the difficult process of choosing adoption for her first daughter, Carly. After giving birth to her second daughter, Novalee, Catelynn fell into a postpartum depression and was open with fans about her mental health during her struggles.
Catelynn has made the decision to be open with her fans once again when it comes to her mental illness. Instead of hiding, Catelynn came forward with the heartbreaking news that she’s heading into treatment after thinking of “every possible way to commit suicide.”

Catelynn Lowell has been open about her struggle with mental illness both on her social media and on the small screen in Teen Mom OG. Catelynn and Tyler’s struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety have been trying for both of them, but Catelynn recently let fans know that she hit a low point in her mental health.
“Well today I thought of every way to kill myself .. so I’m going to treatment,” she tweeted on Nov. 17.
She gave more details to Radar, saying, “I’m taking the time I need right now to take good care of myself. On November 17th I thought of every way possible to commit suicide, from wrapping a belt around my neck to just running my car into an electric pole.”
Despite her difficulties, Catelynn is maintaining a positive attitude. “I’m seeking treatment and I WILL get better,” she said. “This won’t last forever.”
Tyler took to Twitter to show his support for his wife. He wrote, “Incredibly proud of my wife…when she thought she had no choices left, she reached out & decided to LIVE today! My life would be desolate without her in it. You are beautiful, strong, worthy, & loved.”

Although her husband and daughter can’t come to treatment with her, Catelynn did share that someone special will be coming for support. “Well Nova buddy is coming with me,” she captioned this shot of her daughter Nova’s stuffed horse. “And I’m gonna hold it close to my heart the whole time… #thiswontlast #thiswontstopme #keeptalkingmentalhealth.”
Teen Mom fans don’t always agree about everything, but all could agree that treatment was a good move for Catelynn.
Reddit user ladylair wrote, “I really feel for Cate. Between PPD, adoption regret, and her complete lack of good parenting role models, she really had the odds against her. She needs to truly focus on improving herself and leaving negativity behind.”
“The fact that she was able to see she needed help and didn’t act on the thoughts speaks volumes. I am so happy she is seeking treatment,” user Brown_bae agreed. “We may rip on these girls quite a bit, but at the end of the day they are someone’s everything. Good luck to her. In this moment she is stronger than she has ever been before.”
Although Catelynn is in an incredibly difficult place right now, she offered positivity to anyone going through similar experiences. The star wrote:
“Anyone feeling alone you ARE NOT ALONE! This world needs all of us in it! We are all here for a reason. Thank you for your support during this tough time. Much Love.”
